Aftercare

Thoughtful care extends the life of your garments.

General Care Principles
  • Wash only when necessary. Over-washing shortens a garment’s lifespan.

  • Air garments between wears to refresh them naturally.

  • Steaming is preferred over ironing because it is gentler on fibres and shape.

  • Turn garments inside out before washing to protect the surface.

Washing
  • 30°C is usually sufficient for most garments.

  • Use a mild, eco-conscious detergent.

  • Avoid fabric softener, especially on natural fibres.

  • Wash with similar colours and fabrics.

Silk & Delicate Fabrics
  • We recommend professional dry cleaning for best longevity. This is because hand washing uses water, which can cause fibres to swell, leading to shrinkage, loss of shape, and texture changes. This is especially in silk and wool. Dry cleaning uses a solvent instead of water, cleaning garments while preserving their original structure and fit.

  • If hand-washing is advised or if you do not have the option to dry-clean:

    • Use cold water and a silk/fine wool-specific detergent.

    • Immerse the garment and gently move it through the water to evenly distribute the detergent. Allow to soak for up to 30 minutes. Do not wring, or twist.
    • Run cool water through items until rinse water is no longer soapy.
    • Gently press out water with a towel. You can also lay the garment on the towel and gently roll it up.

    • Air dry flat or hanging away from direct sunlight.

Dry Clean Only Garments
  • Dry cleaning is recommended to preserve structure, tailoring, and finish.

  • To reduce environmental impact:

    • Clean only when visibly soiled or after extended wear.

    • Choose cleaners that use eco-friendly processes.

    • Between cleans, air garments or use a garment steamer.

Storage
  • Hang structured garments on proper hangers to maintain shape.

  • Fold knits and delicate silks. These should never be on hangers.

  • Store in a cool, dry place, away from direct light.

  • Avoid plastic garment bags, breathable cotton covers are preferable.

Caring for your garments mindfully is one of the most sustainable choices you can make. Fewer washes, lower temperatures, and thoughtful cleaning methods help reduce water, energy, and chemical use while keeping your pieces beautiful for years to come.
